African American students at Northeast High School
When Northeast High School moved in 1957-1959 to Cottman and Algon Aves. in northeast Philadelphia, it became a segregated school. At its previous location, it was about 50% African American and 50% European American. For 20 years, the school was nearly all European American.
Northeast High School did not become fully integrated until the mid 2000s
In 1982 article states a school must be "40% black and 25% white to be considered desegregated." The article claimed Northeast qualifies. In 2003-2004, 30.6% of the students were African American and 41.1% of the students were European American. This did not change until 2006-2007 when 35.2% of the students were African American, 29.7% were European American, 18.2% Asian American and 15.8% Latino/a.
